Merry Christmas, world.
May 2011 bring food for your hungry, shelter for your displaced, and kindness and compassion for all who call you home.

An elephant never forgets nasal hygeine
Day 10 - Friday 13th August
I'm quite slack with downloading photos from my camera. But when I finally do, it's like I discover old memories that had buried themselves deep in the recesses of my mind.
Indonesia was a blast, with the elephant conservation camp being a highlight. Ain't this cute?
Note to all men: sticky-outy nose hair is acceptable on elephants only. Please pluck.

Day 8 - One Way
Wednesday 7th July 2010
Lately I've kind of had the feeling that some of my friendships with people have been a bit one directional.
Like I've been giving more than I've been getting with some people.
And that makes me wonder whether others feel the same about me. Whether there is more I could be doing to make people feel loved, and wanted and needed.
Note to self: be better person.

Day 7 - Whale
Tuesday 6th July, 2010
Dear Whales,
We went out in a boat on the weekend to say hello to you.
But you didn't show up.
We understand you've got a lot on your plate, what with the long swim to warmer waters so you can give birth and all.
However if you could find it in your big old whale hearts to make a brief detour into the bay next time, that would be grand.
Yours swimmingly,
Chris

Day 6 - Cold Tap
Thursday 24th June, 2010
I have always liked taking photos of ordinary things.
It's good to be able to find the sublime in the mundane. Those who spend their time ignoring the beauty in the absolutely ordinary things - instead focusing solely on the big bang! peaks -live a life of mediocrity and apathy.
Of course an obsession with taking photos of ordinary things means you also risk getting busted in public toilets, snapping images of taps.
Makes you look a bit strange...

Day 5 - Court
I work at the courts.
I'm a journalist, but don't hold that against me - I actually strive for accuracy and balance in my stories.
It's very easy to hate the media - I totally understand, as there are days when I hate the media too - but we're not all pieces of shit.

I've been covering the trial of Jayant Patel. For 14 weeks. The jury will go out today to deliberate. I cannot express my relief.
Because of this trial I now know more about oesophagectomies, colectomies and other medical procedures to do with the bum and chest than anyone other than surgeons should know.

Day 4 - Winter solstice
Tuesday 22nd June, 2010
I spent most of the winter solstice in bed.
I popped a couple of codeine-based pain pills in the morning (Aunt Flo she was a-visiting) and promptly had an anaphylactic reaction to them.
My throat swelled up, as did my lips, cheeks and face. I was covered in hives. I was so swollen I looked like Jocelyn Wildenstein.
I took to bed with an old-school Stephen King novel and a cup of chamomile tea, and waited for the swelling to subside.

Day 2 - Brisbane CBD
Friday 18th June 2010
I've got a thing for photos of reflections.
I like how mirrors or windows warp the subject matter, throwing them down an Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole and spitting them out the other side in skewed forms.
I quite like the clock tower that perches above the old town hall. It now overlooks the newly refurbished King George Square.
Gone are the fountains, the pigeon poo-covered statues, and grassy knolls. In their place are vast expanses of concrete and caged trees.
Thank God the council has started holding events there, which bring it to life and inject a happy buzz into the atmosphere.
If you're in Brisbane on July 30 be sure to check out the BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market. It's strung lanterns, handmade goodies, and gorgeously lovely people ... all under the velvet dusky winter's sky.

Day 1 - The Bedroom
Thursday 17th June 2010
Welcome to my world.
This is me. And my guy. He's a good guy.
This is our bedroom.
It has horrid carpet, but a comfy bed, a floaty paper mobile, handmade felt wall-hangings, two naughty kitties that are always underfoot, and a pile of dog-eared books on the floor.
It's not the Ritz, but we like it. It's home.
